Black Phantom Tetra Temperament: Known as a peaceful fish although the males will get aggressive with one another when breeding or defending territory.

Black Phantom Tetra Diet & Nutrition: Prefer small insects in the wild but that is difficult to supply for a tank. Feed flake food with blood worms and brine shrimp thrown in on occasion.

Black Phantom Tetra Description: Full bodies with black diamond shape surrounded with a green or silver outline. The males can turn dark when mating or defending its territory. Females tend to have a larger body than the males. The fins of the female will be tipped with red while the males have longer fins without the red tips. The adipose fin, located on the top of the body is most noticeable in the females. This is red in females and grey in males.

Tank Mate Compatibility: Tetras, rasboras of the same temperament

Black Phantom Tetra Breeding & Spawning: the Phantom Tetra will have to be conditioned to promote breeding. Live food or frozen food such as blood worms are good conditioning foods. Lower the ph in the tank to 5.5-6 and reduce the hardness of the water. They scatter their eggs. Low lighting and lots of plants will help to promote breeding. They will eat their fry so the parents or adults will have to be removed after they have spawned.

Determining Black Phantom Tetra Sex: The female Phantom Tetra will have red adipose fin and the males will have a grey one. The fins on the males are larger than those of the females. Males will get dark when breeding or fighting for territory.
